Proposed change

As promised in a previous discussion, this PR replaces the repetitive patch calls with a fixture.
This will likely conflict with #170210, I'll take care of updating whichever PR comes second.

There's an existing fixture (see below), but they don't mock the same thing. I decided to go for a separate one to keep things easier to understand.
